The swim club cannot exist without our fabulous volunteers. Please join us in saying a HUGE THANK YOU to BEN HEWITT and KATE KENNEDY for their many hours dedicated to supporting and developing our swimmers at Morpeth ASC, as they head off to university.
Ben started swimming for Morpeth Swimming Club at the age of 8yrs, he competed at all levels up to NER’s and he was a Club Captain in the 2022-2023 season. Whilst swimming Ben developed his interest in coaching and became an aquatic helper in 2020. In 2023 Ben attained his Level 1 Swim Teaching and in 2023-2024 he took joint lead coach for Minnows which included writing the sets. Then in 2024-2025 Ben took lead coach role for C1 which again included writing the sets. In addition to this over the last 2 years Ben assisted at club trials, helped at Diddy League and galas, including supporting younger swimmers at NERs. He did this in parallel to studying at school. In 2023 and in 2024 Ben jointly received the Morpeth ASC Young Volunteer award in recognition for his volunteering at the club.
Kate joined Morpeth Swimming Club just before her 9th birthday. In 2020, at the age of 13 Kate became an aquatic helper, assisting coaches once a week, and in 2022-2023 at the age of 15 Kate was appointed a Club Captain while continuing to compete at County, Regional and National levels. In 2023 at the age of 16, Kate qualified as a Level 1 Teaching Assistant and remained an active volunteer on poolside. In 2024, Kate achieved her Level 2 Swim Teacher qualification and continued to volunteer until recently. She did this in parallel to studying at school.
Thank you and good luck to both Ben and Kate.
