Aquatic Helpers
This is an exciting part of Morpeth ASC which enables you to give some time to the club, whilst learning and developing new skills.
The programme is run by Nicki Hewitt and Jake Hewitt.
We recruit new members at the beginning of the swim season.
Our next recruitment will be in August 2027 in time for the season start in September 2027.
The aquatic helper’s role at MASC involves supporting the delivery of training sessions, under the supervision of one of our qualified swimming coaches/teachers.
You must be at least 13yrs old, you need to have a good understanding of how sessions are structured within MASC; be enthusiastic, organised and keen to assist in the development of our swimmers and you should have a basic understanding of swimming and the safety required within our sessions.
As part of the programme, aquatic helpers also have the opportunity to volunteer at our own organised mini galas for our younger swimmers; gaining additional poolside skills/knowledge.
Those aquatic helpers 16yrs & over will be expected to have a DBS check and will need to attend Safeguarding training.
Safeguarding training is also available for our younger aquatic helpers.
As aquatic helpers progress and depending on available funding, there maybe an opportunity to apply for a Level 1 coaching course. However, this will be decided through discussion with myself, Jake and the committee, using various factors such as length of service, attendance and commitment records, engagement in both the written and practical side of the AH role and attainment of the appropriate age.
